Welch Hornsby Announces the Retirement of Co-founder & Chairman, John Hornsby
12.6.16

Welch Hornsby Co-founders John Hornsby and Eddie Welch have been working side by side for over 28 years. It was inevitable that one day one of them was going to be the first to retire from the firm. As they have always been very open in the sharing of their thoughts, it is only fitting that at this milestone they both share their outlook.

My professional career has been a testimony to me of God’s sovereignty in my life. His leading has far exceeded any plans I could have envisioned for myself. One major part of this journey has been with Welch Hornsby, which I co-founded with Ed Welch, Sr. (deceased) and Eddie Welch over 28 years ago. Our partnership of trust allowed us to create Welch Hornsby from a mutual desire to serve our families and the families of our associates as we sought to serve others with integrity. As a result, this culture attracted some of the best hearts and minds in our industry.

Going forward with Eddie’s leadership, the leadership of our second generation and Welch Hornsby’s remarkable team of associates, the future remains bright for Welch Hornsby. Relative to my departure from Welch Hornsby, I am excited about exploring some of my longstanding professional and personal goals, many of which I share with my best friend and wife, Virginia.

The many relationships that have been formed over my 33 years within the financial community have been a remarkable blessing to me. As I move forward into this next chapter of my life, I know myself to have been truly and richly blessed.

John and I became friends over 30 years ago. That friendship grew to a partnership and Welch Hornsby was formed. While our partnership is ending, our friendship is enduring. I am happy for John. He has most assuredly earned this next chapter. After such success in co-founding Welch Hornsby, he can now explore passions that have had to remain bridled. Starting and building a company is completely consuming. Now at this point in his life and with this new found capacity, it will be fun to watch John in his new endeavors.

As CEO and now Chairman, I remain committed to ensuring our clients’ experiences and outcomes are exceptional. I am also focused on continuing to cultivate an environment where good people can flourish and become great leaders. This in an effort to further the legacy that my father, John and I set out to build in 1988. Significantly, this transition grants a well-earned opportunity for the second generation of leadership. It is now their turn to step forward as leaders and owners to contribute at a strategic and management level. We are even beginning to foster a strong third generation of leaders in hopes of building a firm which will live beyond us.

We will miss John. That said, as I look ahead, I see a team that is remarkably talented and committed. We work superbly well together and are excited and enthusiastic about the future of Welch Hornsby.

We are appreciative of the many friends we have made over the last nearly three decades and hope we are communicating well the spirit of this transition. Most importantly, we are grateful for our clients and look forward to serving you for many years to come. Please feel free to reach out to John, me or any Welch Hornsby team member should you have any questions.
– Eddie Welch

Welch Hornsby Awarded Top Honors, Named as One of the Best Companies to Work for in Alabama
8.26.16

MONTGOMERY, ALA.We are proud to announce that Welch Hornsby was named as one of the Best Companies to Work for in Alabama, being awarded top honors among small to medium firms.

News_BestCompaniesPost_main

This seventh-annual survey and awards program, created by Business Alabama and Best Companies Group, identifies, recognizes, and honors the best employers in Alabama. The list is made up of 16 companies.

Companies from across the state entered the two-part survey process, evaluating and reviewing aspects of company culture, such as opportunities for growth and advancement, community involvement and engagement, and employee appreciation, among others. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems, and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined survey results determined the top companies and the final rankings.

Edward Welch, Jr., and John Hornsby along with the late Ed Welch, Sr., founded the investment advisory firm with the belief that a client’s interest should never be compromised. Nearly three decades later, this company-wide covenant holds true still, and along with the dedication to the client, Welch Hornsby holds commitment to employees in the highest regard. In referring to that standard that earned Welch Hornsby the top rank, President & CEO, Edward Welch, Jr., says, “We have truly dedicated people who embody our mission of uncompromising commitment to build and preserve the wealth of our clients, to enrich their lives, the lives of our employees, and the world in which we live.”

Welch continues, “We believe it is imperative to create an environment that fosters personal and professional growth. Our new wellness program is a good example, and we have had a lot of fun with competitive group challenges. We also spend a lot of time together through corporate lunches and gatherings, which seems to nurture an environment of community and collaboration and ultimately supports our mission.”

While Welch Hornsby is proud to have been recognized is this manner, it is not a representation of clients’ satisfaction with Welch Hornsby or its services. John Hornsby, Welch Hornsby Chairman, Talks about the New Birmingham Office
4.23.14

Welch Hornsby’s Birmingham group recently moved into new offices. Chairman John Hornsby reflects on the move and the new space.

What prompted a new office for Birmingham?

We opened the Birmingham office in 2000. Since then we have been blessed with dynamic growth. The growth we have experienced, along with the growth we are anticipating, truly required the expansion that has effectively doubled our space. I think we were also very motivated and excited to create and invest in a space that better reflected the culture of our firm.

What was the feeling you wanted the new space to have?

I think first and foremost our new space should be about people. We wanted our new space to touch our clients and our associates. I mean we really wanted people to feel something special. Obviously, we wanted it to be comfortable and welcoming and inviting, but we also wanted the aesthetics to speak in a simple, graceful way. We wanted the space to, quite frankly, give a sense of peace. We feel how we work with our clients and with one another is enhanced in a surrounding that is refined and crafted. I think it is just attention to detail. We believe in that here. I think our new space is a reflection of that commitment to quality and integrity.

How have clients and associates responded to the new space?

I think that is what makes it all worthwhile. Having people respond in a positive way cannot help but make us all feel positive. The minimalist design and use of materials, along with the strong natural light, are uplifting. We have combined a sense of tactility with technology. Our library of books is as important as our streamlined computers. We want this office to be about inspiration and stimulation. This has been an exciting journey. It is a wonderful feeling to have clients and associates embrace what we set out to accomplish. It has been and continues to be a joy.

The new Welch Hornsby address in Birmingham is 2000 SouthBridge Parkway, Suite 500, Birmingham, AL  35209.
